Mobil Aviation, together with the other sponsors, The Foundation of the RAAF Association, Victorian Division, The Royal Victorian Aero Club and the 460 Bomber Squadron Trust, are pleased to advise that the winners of their 2003 Flying Scholarships are Anna-Sophia Lazarou and Daniel Tait.
Both Anna-Sophia and Daniel were presented with their winning certificates last Saturday at the Dawn Patrol function organised by the Royal Victorian Aero Club at Moorabbin Airport.
The Scholarship programme is now in its 5th year and commemorates the contribution that young Australian aircrew have made in the defence and development of Australia. The scholarships are offered to young Australian citizens who are keen to pursue aviation as either a career or a long-term recreational interest and are designed to take the winning candidates through to the General Flying Proficiency Standard of the Private Pilot's Licence.
Seventeen year-old Anna-Sophia is presently in year 11 at MLC and is determined to make a career within aviation. She has had this passion from a very young age and she is the first girl to receive one of the scholarships.
Sixteen year-old Daniel is also in year 11 at Cheltenham Secondary College and like Anna-Sophia is also keen to develop a career within aviation either military or civilian. Daniel is an active member of the Australian Air Force Cadets and has had this desire to fly all his life.
Yogendra Kumar from Mobil Aviation said how delighted Mobil were with the quality of candidates again this year and how difficult it was to reach a decision from so many young and passionately keen applicants. Mobil is very proud to be able to be associated with this initiative and especially in the area of development of our young people in aviation.
Both Anna-Sophia and Daniel will undergo and commence their training immediately at Moorabbin Airport with The Royal Victorian Aero Club.
